Our Journey of Growth

1912–1954: The Launching Years
SCMI established local units and hosted landmark conferences that challenged students to reflect deeply on faith in the context of colonialism and emerging nationalism.

1954–1974: The Deepening Years
As India gained independence, SCMI embraced a distinctly Indian identity. The movement relocated its headquarters to Bangalore and launched AIKYA, a platform for students to engage with issues of poverty, injustice, and rural development.

1975–1990: Institutional and Ideological Renewal
SCMI was formally registered and the Ralla Ram Memorial Building was inaugurated. During this period, the movement’s commitment to liberation theology, gender justice, Dalit and Adivasi rights, and ecological concerns was woven into all programs and training.

1990–Present: Critical Reflection and Prophetic Engagement
As India’s social landscape evolved, SCMI engaged in introspection and renewed its commitment to prophetic action. Exposure visits to marginalized communities, grassroots campaigns, and interfaith dialogues became hallmarks of its mission. SCMI remains a school for change-makers who combine faith and courage to confront systemic injustice.
