Desk Concerns at National Office
Mission and scholarship Desk
- Standing in Solidarity: The Mission and Scholarship Desk of SCMI through its Fellowship programme for Dalits and Adivasis walks alongside students belonging to these communities, recognizing their struggles and affirming their right to dignity and justice.
- Rooted in Justice: This work is grounded in a deep concern for social equity, responding to generations of marginalization, exclusion, and systemic discrimination.
- Fellowship for Transformation: Through the Fellowship Programme, students/young people are supported with opportunities to grow, learn, and lead.
- Skill-Building for the Future: The programme offers training in English and Computer skills, and social awareness, equipping students with tools to access higher education, jobs, and meaningful participation in the society.
- Leadership and Career Guidance: Students receive mentoring and career support, helping them explore their purpose and step into roles of leadership with confidence and care.
- Agents of Change: At its core, the Desk sees students as partners in transforming their communities and building a more just, inclusive, and compassionate society.
Human Rights
- The Human Rights Desk integrates human rights education into student discourse.
- It focuses on human rights issues in political, social, and economic contexts.
- The Desk stands firm in advocating for human rights through awareness and solidarity building.
- It organizes and coordinates human rights programs at regional and national levels.
- It initiates campaigns to build awareness and strengthen human rights advocacy. Faith for Rights is one such campaign of the desk.
Gender and Social Justice Desk
Gender and Social Justice Desks aims to Create:
- Sacred spaces that listen to unheard voices of Dalit, Tribal and Adivasi women and students who identify as queer.
- Safe spaces where young men can be vulnerable and talk about Mental Health challenges.
- Learning and unlearning spaces where students are equipped with tools and understanding — rooted in contextual theology, constitutional values, and lived reality.
- Prophetic Space that challenge injustice wherever it exists – within society, within the church, and even within ourselves.
- Creative Spaces where alternatives can be imagined, liberative faith can be formed and students can find meaning and fellowship in working together.
- Currently, the Desk facilitates campaigns like Thursdays in Black, One Billon Rising & 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Faith, Formation, and Praxis Desk
The Faith, Formation, and Praxis Desk seeks:
- To develop a concrete program on ecumenical formation of students and build a network of students and young people across India on issues of faith
- Motivating students to be committed to values of ecumenism
- Coordinating the internship/volunteering programs
- Documentation and preparation of study material like Bible study booklets, concept notes, liturgy, and so on
- Networking with ecumenical and interfaith organisations for possible collaborative work that concerns the desk
- Some of the important yearly programs are Universal Day of Prayer for Students (UDPS), Time for Creation, World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel (WWPPI), and so on.
Communication Desk
- The SCMI Communication Desk connects SCMI with the world, enhancing understanding and engagement with the movement’s ethos and activities through publications, social media campaigns, trainings, music/art workshops, and programs organized by the desks, regions, and units.
- As the communication landscape shifts, SCMI remains committed to inclusive engagement, integrating technology responsibly while promoting critical thinking.
- It empowers students to contribute to the movement’s growth in the digital age by addressing relevant issues such as misinformation, fake news, deepfakes, and biased narratives that threaten informed dialogue and democracy.
- Despite Al’s accessibility, fundamental communication rights remain out of reach for many, leaving the voices of marginalized communities unheard.
- Through Media literacy, it engages students to fact-check and verify sources of information, essential for combating biased narratives and challenges posed by AI.
