Regions
SCMI has fiftteen regions all over India covering nineteen states with rich and large cultural diversity. Local Unit is the main expression of the life of SCMI, where students try to articulate their faith response to the world. Local Units come together and constitute ‘Region’ helping each other to sustain the Regional specificities in study and action. SCMI brings the Regional SCMs together to evolve the student agenda and function as a National Movement.
SCMI is spread across India in 15 different regions with the National Office in Bangalore. The 15 regions of SCMI are
Andhra Pradesh
The SCM Andhra Pradesh & Telangana (AP & TS) Region, part of the nationwide Student Christian Movement of India (SCMI), plays a critical role in uniting students amid the complex realities of state bifurcation. Since Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were separated in 2014, SCMI has actively engaged students across both states, addressing distinct regional challenges such as unequal infrastructure, resource allocation, and cultural differences. SCMI in AP & TS Region facilitates meaningful connections with students, senior friends, and local churches, inspiring them toward shared educational and spiritual growth. Through workshops, discussions, and faith-based advocacy, SCMI empowers students to address social issues, emphasizing inclusivity, mutual respect, and community well-being.
Jharkhand- Bihar
Jharkhand is situated in the eastern part of India. Jharkhand means “The land of Forest” as 29% of the state is covered by “jhars’ (Forest), Jharkhand was formed as a separate state on 15 November 2000. 15 November is also the Birth anniversary of Birsa Munda the Tribal legend of Jharkhand. Around 32 tribal communities are there in Jharkhand which include Mundas, Santhals, Oraons, Hos, Asur, Bathudi, Bedia, Banjara and baiga among others. Language spoken are Hindi, Sadri, Mundari, Santhali, Kurukh etc.
SCM Jharkhand is one of the active regions which have been active from more than 50 years of its glorious time in the region. The most of senior church leaders of 1980s who have been the vibrant part of this movement, solemnly acknowledge their formation and guiding principles to be a change maker through SCM activities. At this present era the movement of SCM in Jharkhand has based in the networking with other likeminded youth groups to carry its mission and vision with the active participation of students and sr. Friends.
SCM Jharkhand focuses more on Adivasi students and their issues. In the present context, these two communities seem to be lagging behind due to lack of awareness and leadership skills. Though, there are lots of schemes for heir welfare but the benefits are not actualised. To this end, SCM is representing the students and mobilizing them through seminars and workshops. The main objectives to organise such campaigns, seminars and workshops for students through various activities are to connect our youths with the larger groups on common issues, with our past traditions and heritage which strengthen or present without any barriers of ethnicity, caste, class, and gender.
